Otherworld: Skumringsfortællinger
Electronic solo performance at Iceland Sorcery Festival 2025
The dream sequence begins.
Otherworld: Skumringsfortællinger is a performance created especially for Icelandic Sorcery Festival 2025. One night only.
Alone with her voice, only accompanied by electronic tracks, classical vocalist Sofia Schmidt (Ethereal Kingdoms and more) leads you through a sonic seance, confronting inner ghosts and inviting a dialog with our own demons and angels.
Three sequences of haunted dreams chase each other with original pieces, interpretations of lieder and arias from Schubert, Puccini and Wolf, freeform improvisations. Nordic percussion, primal screams, haunted electronics, extatic trancelike beats.
This is Otherworld: Skumringsfortællinger. The first dream sequence.
One night only.

The lines between two worlds cross – a voice embraces you as the night falls.
Scenes from the edge of the abyss of the mind.
A strange beauty envelops sonic images of self-destruction, loneliness, absolution, transformation.
Musically, Schmidt treats excerpts from liede-collections from among others Schubert, Wolf and Fauré and modern pieces from various artists.
Genres break down in this space – only the emotional essence of the songs remain.
Everything is reimagined in an electronic, nordic context with emphasis on the emotional intensity and raw expression of each piece. Combined with original works and improvisations by Schmidt, the performance unfolds across three scenes: Drømmen – Længsel – Afsked (The dream – Longing – Departure).
Experience three scenes from the edge of emotional decay – mirroring the transformation of the fading light into poetry and sorrow to beauty.
